Previous TRAINING & EVENTS

The Property Surveying Division of RISM is actively involved in organizing a diverse array of training programs and events to foster the professional development of its members in the field of property surveying. The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Courses cover crucial aspects such as market and feasibility studies, valuation of plant and machinery, discounted cash flow valuation, updates on the Strata Management Act, and understanding building costs.

Apart from the educational initiatives, the division also hosts social events to promote networking and camaraderie among its members. These events include mentor-mentee lunch sessions, technical visits to relevant sites, and recreational activities like games and sports. The overarching aim is to provide a platform for professionals to enhance their skills, expand their knowledge, and connect with peers in the property surveying industry. Prospective members are encouraged to join and actively participate in the division’s training courses, events, and social activities to contribute to the industry’s growth.

RISM PS Division Bowling Tournament

The Sports and Social Sub-Committee of the Property Surveying Division RISM Property Surveying Division hosted a Bowling Tournament in Sunway Megalanes, Sunway Pyramid on Sunday, 14 January 2024 at 10.00am. 12 Teams from different property surveying organisations participated in the tournament. PENILAISAMA turn out to be the Winner, followed by Raine & Horne at Second Place and Metro REC at Third Place. It was a fun Sunday Activity and everyone enjoyed themselves. Congratulations to the winners and hope to see all of you again in our next event.

Coffee Talk COB KL Program

RISM was invited by the Commissioner of Buildings (COB), Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) to be a panellist for their Coffee Talk COB KL Program.

The Coffee Talk COB KL Program is an initiative by COB, DBKL where private practitioners and government officers are interviewed on matters related to Strata Management Practice in Malaysia. It is a recorded interview session and can be viewed on DBKL’s Facebook and YouTube Channel.

RISM was honoured to be invited by COB, DBKL and was given two sessions of one hour interviews. The topics were “Effective Maintenance Management by JMB/MC” and “Guidelines for Preparing Service Contracts by JMC/MC”. It was recorded on 12 and 13 September 2023 under Series 42 and Series 48 of the Coffee Talk COB KL Program.

Workshop on Appointment of Managing Agents for People’s Housing Projects (PPR), Public Housing Schemes and Low/Medium-Cost Stratified Private Housing Schemes

RISM was invited by the Commissioner of Buildings (COB), Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) to participate in a workshop focusing on the appointment of managing agents for 47 people’s housing projects (PPR) and public housing schemes, as well as 287 low and medium-cost stratified private housing schemes.

The three-day workshop was held at the Hotel Copthorne in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia from 9 October 2023 to 11 October 2023. There were about forty-five (45) participants attending the workshop, including those from Malaysian Institute of Property & Facility Managers (MIPFM), Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents and Property Managers Malaysia (BOVAEPM), Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and representatives from registered property management companies.

The main objectives of the workshop :

1. To determine the rate of management fees for managing agents of people’s housing projects (PPR) and public housing schemes, as well as low and medium-cost stratified private housing schemes.
2. To identify mechanisms for establishing provisions on the appointment of managing agents.
3. To identify the best method for determining a reasonable rate of maintenance charges for people’s housing projects (PPR) and public housing schemes, as well as low and medium-cost stratified private housing schemes.
4. To improve the scope of work of the managing agent and if possible, maintain the rate of maintenance charge and other residual expenses paid by DBKL or through special funds.
5. To identify suitable monitoring techniques for the scope of works of the managing agent that are linked with COB DBKL.
6. To discuss on methods of improving income and reducing expenses as well as restructuring payment of utility bills to the authorities.
7. To discuss on the proposed amendment to Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757) related to the managing agent (Section 86,87,88 and 89, Act 757).

Participants of the workshop were divided into six groups and each group was assigned with issues corresponding to the above objectives. Participants showed a very high level of commitment and provided valuable ideas on the topics assigned, which were presented to everyone at the end of the workshop. With each group consist of members from government agencies, NGOs and practitioners, it strengthened the relationship between those who are involved in the Strata Management Industry, which will benefit all in the future.

Seminar on Establishment of Subsidiary Management Corporation (Sub-MC) Pursuant to Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757)

RISM in collaboration with COB, DBKL successfully hosted a full day seminar on the formation of Subsidiary Management Corporation (Sub-MC) pursuant to Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757), on Wednesday, 6 December 2023 at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC). We had a great turnout and obtained positive feedbacks from the participants. Thank you COB, DBKL and Sr Low Hon Keong, Henry Butcher Malaysia (Mont Kiara) Sdn Bhd for sharing your knowledge and experience. We hope that you are ready for the next round. The participants are already asking RISM for more.

RISM Go Hiking

The Sports and Social Sub-Committee of the Property Surveying Division organised a hiking activity at National Botanic Gardens, Shah Alam, Selangor on 30 September 2023 at 7.30 am. Limited to only 30 participants due to safety reasons, it took everyone about less than 2 hours to reach the highest point of the forest. Assisted by a local hiking guide, the participants experienced a good morning exercise and had fun. Thank you to all the participants for supporting this activity.

Courses

RISM Graduate Entry Exam 

RISM PS Graduate Entry Examination is a part-time professional qualification in real estate. Any graduates with a Degree in any disciplines are eligible to sit for the Examinations. Pertinent features of the PS Graduate Entry Examination are:

• Candidates can take any number of subjects and in any sequence in each exam sitting.
• Candidates can keep their passes for 10 years.
• Candidates are required to sit failed subjects until they pass the subjects within 10 years.

To ensure these Probationers have proper access to quality preparatory courses to sit for the Graduate Entry Examination, PS Division has endorsed the Intensive Course for RISM PS Graduate Entry Examination conducted by Professor Sr Dr. Ting Kien Hwa for Year 2018 to 2024.

Professor Ting is the pioneer in providing Intensive Course for probationers which was offered since early 1990s. Many PS probationers had graduated from the Intensive Course and are now members of RISM and registered professionals with the Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents & Property Managers Malaysia (BoVAEP).
